Reducing Excessive Sweating / Hyperhydrosis with Acupuncture

Reducing Excessive Sweating / Hyperhydrosis with Acupuncture

Everybody sweats, but some people really sweat excessively. This can be a condition called hyperhidrosis which is both uncomfortable and embarrassing. This article tells you how acupuncture and Chinese medicine can help reduce excessive sweating. And it gives you some tips to do on your own.

Everybody sweats. Sweating normally occurs when a person becomes too hot or in reaction to emotions such as nervousness, anxiety, fear, and anger. But some people sweat a lot without being hot, nervous, or anxious. The sweating usually occurs on the hands, feet, armpits, and the head. This is called hyperhidrosis which may be very uncomfortable and embarrassing. This even causes some people to avoid social situations. But there is hope, acupuncture and Chinese medicine can help reduce the excessive sweating by addressing the underlying imbalance at the root of the problem.

What are the causes of hyperhidrosis?

Most often, hyperhidrosis is caused by overactive sweat glands and occurs without any other medical condition. This is called primary hyperhidrosis. Anxiety and nervousness can make sweating worse in many people. A small number of people have secondary hyperhidrosis, which is abnormal sweating due to another condition including cancer, infections, hyperthyroidism, menopause, Parkinson’s disease, and stroke. It is best to see your doctor to find out why you have excessive sweating.

How does acupuncture and Chinese Medicine help?

Traditional Chinese Medicine works by correcting imbalances in the body. Treating the imbalance does not just treat the symptoms or mask the condition, like medications that inhibit sweating or antiperspirants, but rather corrects the root of the problem by encouraging self-healing of the body. Each person’s imbalance is different, and the diagnosis and treatment is tailored to that specific imbalance. By correcting the underlying imbalance, you can experience better results. Chinese medicine is not a one size fits all therapy, and it is important to seek out a well trained and experienced practitioner.

What are the most common imbalances causing excessive sweating?

Qi Imbalances- Often the root cause of excessive sweating is an imbalance of the body’s vital energy, or qi (pronounced chee). The two most common imbalances in qi are when there is too little qi or when the qi circulation becomes impaired. One way acupuncture and Chinese herbs work to stop sweating is by helping to improve the circulation and the amount of qi.

Those with too little qi may experience the symptoms of poor digestion, bloating, loose and sticky stools, fatigue, shortness of breath, sinus headaches, soft voice, a weak pulse, and pale tongue. For this issue, herbal formulas such as shen ling bai zhu san are effective, and acupuncture point like Sp 9, Lu 9, St 36, and Kd 3 are helpful.

Qi stagnation, when the qi is not circulating well, can also lead to excessive sweating. Those with qi stagnation will often get a cold after a stressful or emotional situation. They also may be prone to headaches, irregular bowel movements, ribside pain, irritability, anger, and depression. Jia wei xiao yao wan is a great formula for this condition. Acupuncture points such as Liv 2, SJ 3, GB 43 and GB 34 can be very helpful.

Heat- Chinese medicine also uses metaphors to describe imbalances in the body. One metaphor is the idea of heat. Just like heat outside the body can cause sweating, excessive heat can develop inside the body and also cause sweating. Signs of heat include a red face, red tongue, rapid pulse, insomnia, and excessive hunger. Depending on the location of the heat, sometimes your hands and feet but your body is hot and other times, the hands and feet are excessive sweaty and the body is cold. The formulas should aim to get rid of the heat in the body. Si ni san or mai men dong tang can be effective, depending on the type of heat that is causing the sweating. Acupuncture is also very effective to get rid of heat. Points such as PC 4, Lu 6, St 44, Liv 2, and Gb 34 can be used.

How does acupuncture address excess sweating?

Acupuncture stimulates the body to heal itself by activating and deactivating parts of the brain. This is possibly how it regulates sweating. Sweating is controlled by a part of the brain called the hypothalamus. Using an fMRI, a type of brain scan, acupuncture has been shown to activate the hypothalamus to decrease pain and regulate hormones. It is possible that it also works to regulate excess sweating through this part of the brain.

Lifestyle and Dietary Tips

The two most important choices for you to do on your own are eating right and relaxing. According to Chinese Medicine, eating right is simple. Choose local organic seasonal foods and try to avoid greasy and spicy food. In Chinese Medicine, greasy and spicy foods can build up extra dampness in the body, and can further cause more excess sweating. It is also important to cook your foods and not eat too much salad and cold food, which is harder to digest and harder to absorb the energy from the food.

Another important choice is doing something to relax the body and the mind. Breathing techniques are great relaxation. They work with the brain to bring quiet and peace, which can help reduce the amount of sweating. Also, qi gong, yoga, and tai chi can help naturally calm the body, mind, and spirit.

If you have excessive sweating and hyperhidrosis, there is hope. Practice these tips on your own and you will feel better in both mind and body. Also, find an acupuncturist in your area to see if they have experience with this condition.

Causes of Excessive Sweating

Causes of Excessive Sweating

Excessive sweating is known as hyperhidrosis. What are the causes of excessive sweating? Read on…

Sweating is a normal body process, which is controlled by sweat glands located in the skin. It plays an important role in regulating the body temperature. Sweating is more common in certain body parts such as underarms, palms and feet. Although sweating is body’s natural process, there may be excessive sweating in case of some individuals. This condition is known as hyperhidrosis. It can be defined as sweating beyond the body’s physiological requirement. Excessive sweating is categorized as primary hyperhidrosis and secondary hyperhidrosis. Primary hyperhidrosis includes the body parts such as face, hands, feet and underarms. In case of secondary hyperhidrosis, excess sweating is seen all over the body.

Well, what are the causes of excessive sweating? In case of primary hyperhidrosis, the problem is associated with sympathetic nervous system. The exact reason of this type of hyperhidrosis is not clear. Secondary hyperhidrosis is due to certain causes. Following are some of the causes:

  • Heredity: Excessive sweating is associated with the function of genes.
  • Abnormal function of nerves: The sweat glands are located all over the body. In the similar way, the nerves that act as brain’s receptors are present throughout the body. Because of abnormal functions of these nerves, there may be excessive sweating due to wrong stimuli.
  • Abnormal function of brain: The hypothalamus region of the brain, controls the sweating process. Due to a tainted sensory response by the brain, there may be abnormal sweating.
  • Puberty and menopause: Teenagers usually tend to sweat excessively due to physiological as well as psychological changes. In case of menopause, women experience excessive sweating due to physical and hormonal changes.
  • Obesity: This is one of the main causes of excessive sweating. Obese people more commonly suffer from hyperhidrosis, as their sweat glands are more active in order to excrete excess minerals.

Some other reasons for excessive sweating are hyperthyroidism, diabetes, infections, malignancy, autoimmune disorders, psychiatric disorders, abnormal functions of spinal cord, extraneous exercises and activities, reaction to certain foods such as hot and spicy foods and hot weather.

Excessive Armpit Sweating

Excessive Armpit Sweating

Reasons and treatments for excessive armpit sweating.

One of the most common problems in hygiene especially for those people who are very active is excessive armpit sweating. It is not a serious matter however it is kind of embarrassing if people can see wet spots on the part of your T-shirt under your arms. It is also a major turn off when people see your wet underarms.

If you want to treat your excessive armpit sweating, here are the things you should do:

If your excessive underarm sweating affects your daily life negatively, then you should consult an expert about it. It could be your family doctor, a surgeon, or a dermatologist. Seek help if you think it is not normal.

You can ask these experts about Botox treatment especially if you are sweating profusely under your arms everyday. However, keep in mind this is not recommended due to the risk involved with Botox treatments. Natural remedies are recommended (see below)

It is also possible to cure your excessive armpit sweating at home. There are home remedies that are very easy to find or buy such as baby powder. You can apply baby powder under your arms. If it does not work, get yourself a good antiperspirant or deodorant that suits your general lifestyle.

You can also use Aluminum Chloride. You can apply this onto your armpits. But if you want an alternative way, take in some oral medications. Again, always ask your doctor before taking any forms of medications. Although some unnatural methods are often talked about, they are generally not recommended.

Always be clean. Take a shower or a bath regularly. Scrub and use soaps that can help you reduce sweating and at the same time prevent excessively sweating and smelling underarms.

Armpit Sweat Causes

Armpit Sweat Causes

What are the causes of armpit sweating.

You can either experience normal armpit sweating or profuse armpit sweating. The first is your body’s way of regulating the temperature inside your body. Your body produces normal amounts of sweat to cool down. However, if you are sweating excessively you may have a symptom referred to as hyperhidrosis, which is an abnormal condition in your body.

Regular armpit sweat, which is a natural process, should not be a cause of too much worry or alarm. Sweat is normally a result of the following reasons:

Heat. Imagine yourself in the middle of a desert at 12 noon, wearing a ski suit and eating a scalding soup. Wouldn’t your armpit produce sweat? Not just armpit sweat but also sweat in every inch of your body. You tend to sweat in very hot places because it makes your body cooler. This is to avoid excessive heat and maintain temperature inside your body.

Armpit sweat is also caused by emotions such as stress, embarrassment, nervousness, and anxiety. Though most of the time these are not the main factors why people sweat, they are some of the factors which makes it worse.

For those who suffer from excessive armpit sweat, here are some the possible causes of the problem:

There must be something wrong with your nervous system. Sympathetic nervous system is the one responsible for all of these.

Your sweat glands are working over time. It may mean you are consuming the wrong types of food.

Excessive body weight or medical conditions and drugs. In this case you should ask your doctor’s advice regarding these issues.

It is in your genesand there is nothing you can do about it.

Avoid foods and products that can make you sweat a lot such as alcohol, cigarettes, caffeine, etc.

Body odor or body odour - it doesn’t matter how you spell it!

Body odor or body odour - it doesn’t matter how you spell it!

What are the main problems with body odor and how do you treat body odor

Being a brit means that I spell things correctly and the true spelling is odor. But lets not argue about it. I will slip in the odd bit of body odor here and there to keep you non British readers happy. This is a flippant way to start an article that deals with a serious problem. Back in the seventies there was a TV ad that was for an antiperspirant. It had people whispering the words “B. O” in hushed tones about someone else in their social group. Being very young I had yet to find out that B O stood for body odor. I also hadn’t yet found out the associated problems. The point of the ad was to say that the product on offer would solve all the body odor problems.

This as many of us know is an over-simplification of what can be a quite complex health issue. Different people have varying degrees of odor depending on how much they perspire and how they deal with their sweat problem. It isn’t the sweat that causes the odor but the associated bacteria. To treat the odor you have to go for the bacteria. The only problem with that is that some bacteria is good for you. If you completely eliminated it you would create a different set of health problems

Masking your body odor problem

Deodorants mask the problem by covering it with a different more pleasant smell. The do not try to deal with the cause of the problem. For people who only have a mild problem this can be sufficient but for most you need something stronger. This is where anti-perspirants come in. They close of the pores of the skin in various ways. There are quite a range of prescribed and non prescribed types. These products are pretty good if you can find one that suits your personal body sweat and odor problem. It can take quite a bit of trial and error.

Washing and body odor

Another way to treat the B O is to wash with anti-bacterial soaps and shampoos. These are nearly all freely available over the counter from a chemist. Again it is a matter of trial and error to find one that suits you. You cannot wash too frequently however because this can increase the excess sweat problem. When someone is having a real heavy sweating day it can be tempting to keep jumping in the shower but this could make the problem worse.

Diet and body odor

For just a few sufferers the cause can be clearly linked to their diet. It usually involves identifying spicy of strong flavored foods that are setting their sweat glands onto overdrive. The classic example is a hot vindaloo curry but this would cause most people to sweat too much. Other types of food are spices and food additives that seem harmless but cause a reaction in some people.

The solution to your body odor problem will probably come from a mix of these methods. It will be tailored to your own self knowledge about what you think sets off your sweating and body odor.

Excessive Underarm Sweating Treatment

Excessive Underarm Sweating Treatment

Ideal ways to solve excessive underarm sweating problems quickly and effectively, and what methods to stay away from.

Having excessive underarm sweating is not a thing to be ashamed about. There are millions of people in the United States alone who are suffering from such condition, and there’s no need to feel embarrassed by it. However, having nasty sweat stains can really turn some people off, especially when it is accompanied by body odor. This can lower one’s confidence and self-esteem.

Good thing, there are now ways to treat excessive underarm sweating. There are various forms of treatment available today, and the treatment for you will depend on the severity of your condition.

The most common treatment people follow is the use of antiperspirants. You can get over-the-counter antiperspirants which you can buy in your local drugstore, or you can go for prescription antiperspirants which have stronger concentrations. However often this will not work is many cases of hyperhidrosis.

If you want to treat excessive underarm sweating more permanently, then you can get Botox injections in your underarm area. Botox can hamper sweat gland stimulation because it swells up the area. Although it can be painful and expensive, studies have shown that the reduction of sweating lasts for several weeks and even months, which makes it very well worth it. However, Botox injections might cause side effects.

The last resort in treating excessive underarm sweating is surgery. This will involve removing sweat glands in your underarm area. It is effective in treating sweating in your underarms, but as a result, you could end up sweating in other parts of your body.

Mostly, botox and surgery are not recommended unless it is the final straw. The best ways to properly solve excessive underarm sweating actually involves a natural and non-invasive method. Before you try more invasive methods, consult your doctor first to see if it is the right treatment for you, and visit the link below which will take you to the next step.

Excessive Head Sweating Treatment

Excessive Head Sweating Treatment

My recommendations for your excessive head sweating problem based on prior experience.

alt="Excessive Head Sweating Treatment" />
The problem of excessive sweating may not be as uncommon as you thought, it might be some comfort knowing that approximately 1% of the world’s population suffers the same way you do! The medical term for excessive sweating is known as hyperhidrosis.

Although, most hyperhidrosis sufferers experience their symptoms in the underarms and the body, there are some who experience excessive sweating on head, the forehead, and neck.

My Techniques

It can certainly be seen as one of the more undesirable places to be sweating excessively, because your head cannot be covered up out of view. Nonetheless, do not panic! I was a previous sufferer of excessive head sweating, and you will be glad to know that I have found my way over this hurdle. I have used and read a lot of resources, and each person is different, however for me it came down to a few good tips I picked up.

Firstly, relaxation techniques. I needed to train myself to relax and make an effort to forget about my problems. It is really simple - the more you worry, or stress, the more you will naturally sweat. Often people do not realize that this could be a major contributor to their excessive head sweating, and will probably apply to 95% of you reading this article. Basically, you have to learn to control your mind and your thoughts. I had found that one easy way to achieve this was to basically not care about your sweating problem at all! Yes, it may take some practice, but the less you care about it being there, the less you will stress, and the less you will potentially sweat!

I had learnt about certain herbal applications to reduce the over stimulation of your sweat glands. I unfortunately cannot disclose these to you due to it being highly copyrighted material, but I strongly urge you to read the recommendations on this particular Excessive Head Sweating page, if you are serious about effectively treating your head sweating problem.

The Advantages of Herbal Remedies

The major advantage of herbal remedies is that they are completely natural and risk-free. One thing I would like to emphasize is that you should really be careful with the people and products you are dealing with. Often, people will recommend surgery for excessive sweating problems, however they do not tell you that surgery is not only dangerous, but does not even guarantee its success. So, it’s a risk that is simply unnecessary to take!

Final Word

I hope I have been successful at shedding some light on your situation based on the experiences of mine. Because once you see benefits from it, you will thank me!

Botox Perspiration Treatment for excessive sweating

Botox Perspiration Treatment for excessive sweating

Botox treatment for perspiration is a relatively new way to cure excessive sweating. Before you can even gain access to this treatment you will have seen your doctor and tried many of the traditional remedies and home cures.

Botox perspiration treatment is not a fashion accessory for those who can afford it although it can be used like this for people overtaken by our celebrity culture. For people who really suffer the problem of too much sweat this treatment is serious and can have great benefits for them in their daily lives.

Is this sweat treatment suitable for everybody?

There are people who canot have this treatment due to other illness and medical conditions such as pregnancy and some types of diabetes. This is why the program has to be tightly supervised.

How Does Botox Cure Excessive Perspiration?

By having Botox Injections the underarm area is made less reactive to the natural tendency to sweat. It reduces nerve activity in the sweat glands. The treatment is done by injection and it is highly critical in its execution. It has to be injected into the correct depth under the skin to avoid complications. The treatment is applied directly to the affected area - most commonly under the armpits. The treatment kicks in after a few days and lasts for up to a year before you need to have the treatment again.

There are other natural cures for sweating that do not require injections. You can follow a program of diet control and washing techniques using easily found ingredients to stop excessive sweat. I have found that this method works really well and wouldn’t consider the botox solution for me
